Things-6

Laos' charm-3.jpg

Laos is the Mekong.

The river surface gradually turns red...

"What's in Laos?"

"I can't imagine what kind of country it is."

What are the characteristics of Laos?

"Isn't it the same as 'Love in Cote d'Ivoire'?"

...No matter how strongly I explain things, people always say, "I don't understand Laos." Is this because I'm not good at communicating? I wondered as I reflected on this.

Something that exists in Laos and not in other countries.

No matter how many times I'm asked, for me it's "drinking Beer Lao while watching the Mekong sunset."

"Spring is the dawn. The mountains are slowly turning white, and the light shines brightly. Thin purple clouds are floating in the air..."

This is from Sei Shonagon's essay "The Pillow Book," and for some reason, I am reminded of this phrase every time I see a sunset over the Mekong.

"Laos is the Mekong. The surface of the river slowly turns red, the light shines a little, and then dusk sets in...it's strange to drink beer Lao."

Because there are few so-called tourist spots, you have the luxury of being able to spend time there.

Being a cheapskate, when I travel I tend to run around like a little mouse, thinking "I have to see this" or "I have to eat that," but in Laos there's no need to rush.

It's a place where you feel like your soul is cleansed.
