Things-2

Pakse's charm-1.jpg

It's fancy, or maybe kitschy. There are colorful fountains and benches around the temple "Wat Phurasao" on the mountainside. Is it a perfect date spot?

Green! Light! Green! Light!

Easy on the eyes,

I miss Pakse, where the people are so kind .

Living in urban areas in Japan, I miss the lush greenery of Pakse. Pakse is a city in southern Laos. It is said to be the center of the south, but there are no notable symbols or towers in the city, making it even more modest than the capital city of Vientiane.

Well, that's why it's good.

Outside the city, there are other tourist attractions such as Wat Phu, a World Heritage Site; Si Phan Don, which is dotted with around 4,000 islands of all sizes; and various waterfalls. Each of these are wonderful, but you literally have to travel a little further to get to them (and there is no public transportation, so you have to arrange tours with the hotel).

But even if you don't spend time and money going to those places, just strolling around the city's lush greenery is enough. Why?

Is it because the road is wide?

Maybe it's because you can walk at your own pace?

Is it because there's always green in your field of vision?

Is it because the light is filtering through the gaps between the trees?

Maybe it's because the whole town feels so calm and collected?

Maybe it's because I don't have to be rushed?

Is it because the people I met were so kind?

When I went to Wat Phra Sao, a temple on the mountainside, to worship the Great Buddha known as the Golden Buddha, I was at a loss as to how to get home, but I met a family who gave me a ride into town in their car.

Ah, I hope the day comes soon when I can go there!
